A Case Study - Moving to competency based recurrent training
ZIMEX, a Swiss air operator and aviation service provider who also offers express cargo charter, maintenance and pilot training services is a long year customer of infoWERK.
Together we asked ourselves the question how we could improve the quality and effectiveness of the annual recurrent training. The goal was, to focus in the available training time, more on the weak points of each individual flight crew member, while making sure that all required training is covered and knowledge is checked.
To fulfill those requirements, it was decided to move to a competency based training approach.
This means, that the user has the opportunity to review his existing knowledge of a certain topic first, and based on the result, his training content and checking is defined. While already known information becomes not mandatory for training, but is still available for review. Training areas covering new or updated information or where the individual user was not able to demonstrate his competency must be reviewed and are then checked again.
All training and checking is of course documented in detail and allows a review on the training process.
With this new approach ZIMEX as well as the students can benefit from:
- shorter training times
- a more individual approach
- tailor-made content for the particular pilot
- lower costs
- more flexibility
