Fire Fighting Course Update - Halon Phase-Out & Replacement Agents
We’ve updated our Fire Fighting Course to include the latest developments on Halon and its replacement agents in line with Regulation (EU) 2024/590.
What’s new?
Halon has long been the go-to fire extinguishing agent in aviation — highly effective, but environmentally harmful. As ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and potent greenhouse gases, Halons are now being phased out:
- Portable fire extinguishers – by end of 2025
- Other applications (e.g. cargo compartments) – by 2040

Our updated course covers:
- The environmental impact of Halons and their replacements
- Key selection factors – performance, safety, cost, and availability
- Approved Halon replacement agents such as Novec 1230
- Compliance with EASA and EU regulations
- Guidance on consulting EASA-approved service providers
